Buy a custom eventer from Wits End - over 50 top 3 placings and counting...

Over 55 top 3 placings and counting for Wits End Bred Horses.

Wits End Eventing horses are purpose bred for upper level eventing based on a database we have created of all horses who have competed at the CCI*** and CCI**** level since the change in format. We breed for a horse who is brave, smart, sound and has majority TB blood with Holstein jumping lines bred in. All our broodmares have successful performance records in eventing, in steeplechase or in racing. We often see top riders who have horses that do well until the three or four star level when the horse struggles because they are bred with less than 50% TB blood. Looking for a horse to be successful at the three and four star level? Contact us.

We have noted in the description if we feel a horse has a particularly amateur friendly disposition

Currently for sale:

Horses broken in:
* Redoubtable WE (Reddy) (Royal Alyance x Mabelino by Trempolino): 2012 bay 16 hand gelding. Great brain. Super amateur prospect. Very brave. Reddy has a great friendly temperament and a super gallop. Reddy’s dam, Mabelino, was a winning steeplechaser for Kinross farm and has several offspring who have competed successfully in the chase and a daughter who ran a CCI*. A tall, large boned regal mare, she descends from many great sport horse lines including Lord Gaylord and My Babu. Our own stallion, Royal Alyance, brings in the warmblood jumping greats Lord, Ladykiller (through Landgraf I), and Cor de la Bryere. Reddy is carefully linebred to emphasize Native Dancer (without concentrating Raise a Native), Princequillo, Pharos, and Nearco (jumping). Native Dancer is known for producing agile jumpers with a strong work ethic. He was also the 2nd most common TB sire in past US dressage horses.

Royalty Happens WE (Happy) (Royal Alyance x Reality Happens by Cutlass Reality): Royalty Happens is a fancy 2014 filly out of the lovely thoroughbred mare Reality Happens. Great brain. Super prospect for an amateur or pro. Happy is exactly what we breed for: uphill, lovely gaits, super temperament and the right percentage thoroughbred to make a top CCI**** horse. She is going to be small. We expect her to mature about 15.3 hands. Phenomenal free jump. Currently walk/trot under saddle. Her dam, Reality Happens, is a guaranteed single copy carrier of the large heart gene and concentrates a number of thoroughbred lines known to be good for sport horses in her 5th through 7th generations including My Babu, Bold Ruler, Nearco, Menow, Nasrullah, Tom Fool, Pharos, Bull Dog, Mahmoud, and Pharamond. With lovely conformation and 3 beautiful gaits we have been very pleased with her foals. Happy’s sire is our now gelded stallion Royal Alyance who brings in the warmblood jumping greats Lord, Ladykiller (through Landgraf I), and Cor de la Bryere.

Chaos Theory WE (Chaos) (Coromino x Chequer Account by Private Account): 2014 filly expected to mature around 16.2 hands. She is our second baby out of Chequer Account and our second baby by Coromino. Uphill mover with a sweet temperament and a large dose of curiosity. She has recently been started under saddle walk/trot. Super jump. Lovely mover. Great upper level prospect. Her sire, Coromino, is an imported Oldenburg stallion who competed through the Level 6 jumpers ( 4’3” – 4’9”) with multiple top placings before retiring to stud. In addition to a super jump and 3 lovely gaits, he is know for throwing horses with super temperaments. Her dam, Chequer Account, also has an impressive jump and is a lovely mover. In addition to her impressive lineage, Carmen is a guaranteed single copy large heart gene carrier and has at least a 50% chance of being a double copy carrier.

Sea of Dreams WE (Dreamer) (Sea Accounts x Luna by Lanthan): 2014 mare expected to mature around 16 hands. Uphill, lovely gaits. Her half sister just won BN with Carin Brown at VA horse trials. Dreamer is by Sea Accounts, a 16.3 hand black off the track thoroughbred stallion who has been licensed Oldenburg. Sea Accounts has competed through 4th level dressage and the intermediate level in eventing. He is a Son of Sea Hero, winner of the 1993 Kentucky Derby and almost $3 million in total earnings, and out of the Black–type mare, Dance Account (earnings over $130,000) by Private Account. Dreamer’s dam, Luna, is a wonderful black warmblood mare who competed through the CCI** level in eventing with her former owner, Alice Tarjan. She was second in June 2001 at the Bromont CCI**. After eventing, she took up children’s jumpers and equitation. In 2004, she was the 2004 Zone 2 Children’s Jumper Champion and the Marshall & Sterling High Point Children’s Jumper. Dreamer has a very discounted price because she was vetted as a 2 year old by someone who wanted to buy her, and the woman’s vet did not like her hock films. She has never had a lame day in her life. We sent the films to Rood and Riddle to take a look. Here is the report: ROOD AND RIDDLE EQUINE HOSPITAL P.O. Box 12070 Lexington, KY 40580 (859) 233-0371 Fax (859) 255-5367 Radiograph Report Patient Name: Sea of Dreams Date: 3-14-16 Owner/Farm: Dale Hinman Age: Sites To Be Examined: Interpretation: Note: NSA = no significant abnormalities. L Hock: Mild lucencies distal border of navicular bone. Mild degenerative changes tarsal metatarsal and distal intertarsal joints R Hock Mild degenerative changes tarsal metatarsal and distal intertarsal joints with small fragment in tarsal metatarsal joint Radiographic Diagnosis: Recommendations: The changes by themselves in the hock are not that important if the horse is sound. The fragment is part of the arthritic changes present but it is not a concern for future soundness by itself. I can understand why buyers may be concerned but I don’t think the horse will notice this. Read By: Alan J. Ruggles, D.V.M., Diplomate, A.C.V.S. She is for sale for 8K because of the X-ray findings. We would take her back through our mare program any time so, if she were to develop a soundness issue, her owner could always trade her back for a different horse. It is a great opportunity IMO for someone to get a really, really nice purpose bred horse for a super price

NOT BROKEN IN:

3-year-olds:

Occam’s Razor WE (Razor) (Callaway IV x Reality Happens by Cutlass Reality): 2015 mare who is one of the last foals by Grand Prix Show Jumper Callaway IV. Callaway IV is line bred 2×4 to the legendary Selle Francais stallion Cor de la Bryere who is most well known for producing jumper lines although he also had foals compete at the highest levels in both dressage and eventing. Razor’s dam, Reality Happens, is a guaranteed single copy carrier of the large heart gene and concentrates a number of thoroughbred lines known to be good for sport horses in her 5th through 7th generations including My Babu, Bold Ruler, Nearco, Menow, Nasrullah, Tom Fool, Pharos, Bull Dog, Mahmoud, and Pharamond. With lovely conformation and 3 beautiful gaits we have been very pleased with her foals. We feel Razor is going to be a professional’s ride. She is smart and sensitive. Expect her to be an exceptional athlete.

Sergeant Reckless WE (Reckless) (Rabble Rouser x Mabelino by Trempolino): Reckless is one of our horses who would be a great amateur prospect as she has a super temperament. Very willing, super jump. Her sire, Rabble Rouser, is by Royal Appearance out of Irish Lace (JC – Femme Sol’e). Irish Lace was a grade 3 event horse who evented through the CCI** level with an adult amateur. Reckless’ grand sire, Royal Appearance, finished 4th in the 100-Day Stallion Test and was Reserve Champion in the 2001 East Coast 6-Year Old Young Jumper Finals. Royal Appearance sired Royal Raconteur who was 5th and Best Conditioned at the Jersey Fresh CCI2* and 2nd at the Blair Castle CCI3* in Scotland with Clark Montgomery. Royal Appearance was sired by Riverman who himself sired CCI**** horses R-Star and Slate River. Rabble Rouser was kicked in the hip as a yearling causing a fracture that slipped and ended his riding career before it ever started; however, we have retained him and used him as a sire because of his lovely temperament, build, movement and excellent genetics. Reckless’ dam is Mabelino is the ex-steeplechaser/CCI** broodmare mentioned previously.

2-year-olds.

Skywalker WE (Luke) (Royal Alyance x Report to Sloopy by Corporate Report): 2016 Gelding who our vet named Luke when he was born because she said he had the force….Per our farrier, Luke has amazing feet. Luke is a half brother to Doug Payne’s horse CCI** horse Quantum Leap. His 3/4 sibling was the East Coast 3 y/o filly FEH champion. His full brother was sold to an adult amateur who loves him. This horse has a great disposition – super easy going. He has everything to be a world class top horse for a pro but a disposition that would suit an amateur. Luke’s dam, Report to Sloopy, is the 1/2 sister of CCI**** and 2006 10th place Rolex horse Sloopy. She brings into the match a wealth of excellent TB bloodlines. His sire, Royal Alyance, brings in the warmblood jumping greats, Lord, Ladykiller (through Landgraf I), and Cor de la Bryere. This match concentrates sex balanced lines of Native Dancer (agility, jumping, work ethic) , Princequillo, Nearco (jumping), and 8 lines of Blue Larkspur (one of the 4 major modern carriers of the large heart gene). He is bred for upper level eventing! Luke is going to be tall as he is 16 hands already and growing.

Sparrowhawk WE (Ged) (Rabble Rouser x Hushabye Lady by Private School): 2016 gelding by our stallion Rabble Rouser (info above) out of Hushabye Lady, an OTTB adopted from New Vocations who raced 16 Starts with two wins and three seconds before retiring sound from the track in 2008. She has excellent uphill conformation, is a super fancy mover and has a sweet temperament. Lady’s great grand sire, Sir Ivor, is a harder to find TB identified by the French annual book of sport horse breeding as the TB sire with the greatest influence on the International Show Jumping scene world wide. Her pedigree concentrates the great sport horse producing thoroughbreds Nasrullah, Nearco, Mumtaz Begum, Pharos, Bold Ruler, Teddy, and Bull Dog in the 5th to 9th generations. She has had one other baby for us, Polyanna, who was sold to Utah and who won her first beginner novice event with her adult amateur owner. Ged is named for the character Sparrowhawk in the Ursula K LeGuin Earthsea series of novels. Like his namesake, Ged is powerful, super smart and cheeky. He has the “look of eagles.” He should mature 16 to 16.2 hands. He is going to be a very fancy brave and bold CCI**** horse for a professional or a serious amateur with upper level experience. He will not be a horse for an inexperienced lower level rider. He will be a formidable eventer in the right hands.

Conspiracy Theory WE (Cee Cee) (Contucci x My Martina by Midway Circle): 2016 filly. Cee Cee is a lovely mare and a very fancy mover. She is by Hill Top farm’s stallion Hanoverian stallion Contucci. Contucci is known for throwing horses with lovely movement and good dispositions. Her dam, My Martina, is an off the track thoroughbred mare who is registered in the Oldenburg Main Mare Book (she scored 100). Martina raced 53 starts and retired sound from the track. She has an excellent temperament and a fancy, fancy trot. Martina is 4S x 3D Native Dancer and 4S x 5D Princequillo – both horses we love to see up close in a pedigree. She has produced some very nice foals for us. Cee Cee’s full sibling, Copperfield, has top placings through training level and competed up to Prix St. George dressage. We feel Cee Cee could be a pro or an amateur mount.

Tyrion (Rabble Rouser x Pazia ZRF by Marveli of Hylite): 2016 pony gelding. Tyrion is a Haflinger, TB, Holstein cross who should mature around 14-14.2h. He has a half brother, Valiant Voyager, competing successfully eventing with an amateur owner and a half brother sold last year to a dressage home. Tyrian’s sire, Rabble Rouser, is by Royal Appearance out of CCI** mare Irish Lace (JC – Femme Sol’e). His dam, Pazia ZRF, is a 13.2 hand Haflinger barn favorite who jumps 3’9″, schooled preliminary level cross country, has been ridden in eventing clinics up through Training level with Jim Wofford and Kim Severson who both loved her. Tyrion will make an amateur, child or young rider very happy.

Yearlings:

Chessmaster WE (Chuck) (Chicardo x Chequer Account by Private Account): 2017 Colt. Chuck’s sire, Chicardo, a Grand Prix Show Jumper, was champion of his approval and reserve champion of this 70 day test. He, like many C line Holsteiners, is line bred Cor de la Bryere, but also (and more importantly for eventing) is 5x5x6x6 Ladykiller including 2 less common lines. Chuck’s dam, Chequer Account, has an impressive jump and is a lovely mover. In addition to her impressive lineage, Carmen is a guaranteed single copy large heart gene carrier and has at least a 50% chance of being a double copy carrier. Chuck is a definite upper level prospect.

Comet Valor WE (Soldier): (Rabble Rouser x Comet Swinger by Comet Shine): Soldier is a 2017 Colt who gets his name because he was born on Memorial Day. His sire, Rabble Rouser, is a 70% TB cross with excellent TB and jumper bloodlines. His dam, Comet Swinger, is by Comet Shine who sired Becky Holder’s Courageous Comet. Comet Swinger is a spectacular mover and has produced a number of lovely foals for us including our 3-year-old Comet Chrome who won her one and only FEH competition this summer. Extremely friendly and bold, this boy is bred to excel at the upper levels. Soldier will be grey. Soldier is a definite upper level prospect.

Gentleman Jim WE (Paddy) (Rabble Rouser x Reality Happens by Cutlass Reality): Paddy is a 2017 Gelding born on St. Patrick’s day and named for Irish American “Gentleman Jim” Corbet, a bare knuckle boxer that was the World Heavyweight Champion from 1892-1897. Paddy is extremely friendly with a fabulous trot and amazing canter. He was second at his only FEH outing at Waradaca over the summer. Paddy’s sire is Rabble Rouser (info as previously stated above). Paddy’s dam, Reality Happens, is a guaranteed single copy carrier of the large heart gene and concentrates a number of thoroughbred lines known to be good for sport horses in her 5th through 7th generations including My Babu, Bold Ruler, Nearco, Menow, Nasrullah, Tom Fool, Pharos, Bull Dog, Mahmoud, and Pharamond. With lovely conformation and 3 beautiful gaits we have been very pleased with her foals. Paddy is a definite upper level prospect.

He is a 1/2 sibling to Doug Payne’s CCI** horse, Quantum Leap. V is a flashy, leggy 2018 colt that should mature 16.2-16.3. His sire, Rabble Rouser, is by Royal Appearance out of CCI** mare Irish Lace (JC – Femme Sol’e). V’s dam, OTTB Report to Sloopy, is an RHPSI Premium Mare and was the high scoring mare at her RHPSI inspection. She is also half sister to the Grade 1 CCI**** event horse Sloopy ridden by John Williams. At 85% TB with a lofty trot and killer gallop, look no further for your next mount.
